STRETCH MARKS

Stretch MarkS TREATMENT

Stretch marks, or striae, are a form of skin scarring associated with pregnancy, obesity, puberty, and short-term weight gain from bodybuilding and other physical activities. They form when the dermis – the middle layer of the skin that maintains shape and elasticity – is stretched more than it can tolerate. Connective fibers in the skin eventually break, disrupting collagen production and causing scarring. This scarring may be treatable only through stretch mark removal.

Candidates

While there are many suitable candidates for stretch mark removal, the most common patients are women who have recently given birth. Stretch marks and pregnancy usually go hand in hand – almost three in four women will experience stretch marks after pregnancy. These women usually suffer from belly stretch marks, but other areas may also be affected, resulting in the need for mommy makeover surgery. Other candidates include people who have lost significant weight and bodybuilders who have quickly developed significant muscle mass.

Causes of Stretch Marks

Both men and women are susceptible to stretch marks, particularly on the thighs, hips, arms, buttocks, abdominal area, and lower back. There are several causes of stretch marks, including:

Genetics: Women are more likely to get belly stretch marks if their mother, for instance, had stretch marks after pregnancy. Significant weight gain and loss: Your skin stretches as your weight fluctuates, sometimes resulting in stretch marks.

Puberty: Growth spurts during puberty often result in stretch marks as the skin is unable to keep up with the body’s rate of growth.

Bodybuilding: Rapid development of muscle mass may stretch the skin beyond its limits.

Corticosteroids: Heavy or long-term use of oral or topical corticosteroids, a widely used pharmaceutical steroid compound, can lead to stretch mark formation.

Ethnicity: People with darker skin are less likely to have stretch marks.

Stretch Marks after Pregnancy

Stretch marks after pregnancy are particularly common. Nearly three in four women will develop stretch marks on their legs, abdomen, hips, and other areas of the body affected by weight gain during pregnancy.

During pregnancy, the skin expands and stretches to its limit, causing tiny tears in the supporting layers of skin. These tiny tears are stretch marks that appear as glossy, white streaks in the skin. Many women who have stretch marks after pregnancy turn to laser stretch mark removal to eliminate this unwanted scarring. This treatment is designed to give women the renewed, youthful appearance they desire.

Areas of the Body That Can Be Affected by Stretch Marks

Stretch marks can affect any area of the body in which the skin is subject to rapid stretching. The abdomen is the area most often affected by stretch marks, but they are also common around the thighs, hips, buttocks, lower back, arms, and chest. Skin in all these areas is subject to high stress as a result of heavy use and rapid expansion. Theoretically, any area of the body could be vulnerable to stretch marks if the skin is stretched enough as a result of tissue expansion.

TREATMENT

MICRO NEEDLING :In my office we have been getting excellent results in the treatment of stretch marks by using 1.5 mm needles combined with human growth factor serums. We use motorized micro-needling, not the derma roller, for a more even and more effective result. Rollers such as the Derma roller create a more erratic pattern of “tears” through the skin rather than the clean, more evenly distributed punctures seen with motorized micro-needling machines. Because micro-needling has been shown to enhance delivery of topically applied skin care products, we combine micro-needling treatments with human growth factor serums to get the best results.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are most commonly used on the face to treat WRINKLES and AGESPOTS  but they can be used on other areas of the body for stretch mark removal. In the chemical peel procedure, a chemical solution is applied to the skin using a sponge, cotton pad, cotton swab, or brush. The types and strengths of the chemicals in the solution vary according to the individual patient’s needs. The chemicals essentially peel off the top layers of damaged, dead skin and activate new skin cell production. Patients might feel a stinging or burning sensation during treatment. The recovery period depends on the patient’s skin type and the strength of the chemicals administered, and multiple treatments may be necessary to achieving optimal results. It’s important to bear in mind that a chemical peel will not remove stretch marks completely; however, they usually fade as a result of treatment, and patients emerge with smoother, healthier, more youthful looking skin.

Micro dermabrasion

Both micro dermabrasion and chemical peels improve the appearance of stretch marks through the removal of the skin’s top layers. Chemical peels achieve this goal by using chemicals to “burn” the top layer away while micro dermabrasion uses a fine crystal spray to “blast” the outermost layers of skin. Dead skin cells are removed and new, healthy skin cells take their place. The new cells produce more collagen and last in, two vital components of smooth, young looking skin. Micro dermabrasion is a painless procedure that takes no more than an hour to complete and involves little recovery time. An additional five to twelve treatments are needed to reap the maximum benefits of the procedure. Keep in mind that, although microdermabrasion can improve the appearance of scars, it is not an effective means of complete stretch mark removal.

Mesotherapy

Mesotherapy can have an effect on the collagen and inelastic thickening during the mechanical skin damage by the needle. The needle is placed along the whitish line of the striae. In the skin recovery process the sting activates the natural processes that increase the level of the new collagen and inelastic. There is a lot of debate on how effective is the active substance used in mesotherapy. Newer cosmetic mixtures use hyaluronic acid, tretinoin, growth factors.

NON-SURGICAL FACE LIFTING (High Intensity Focussed Ultrasound )

HIGH INTENSITY FOCUSED ULTRASOUND
Only ONE treatment for AMAZING RESULTS! First machine in the valley!! Making Skin Listen With Sound!

Put aging skin back in its place — without a surgical face-lift. Sagging skin gives you tired-looking eyes and distorts the contours of your face at the chin and neck. High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) lifts and tightens skin for a non-surgical face-lift and neck lift. Since its release in 2012, Ulthera (Ultherapy) has been quickly growing in popularity with experts worldwide as an advanced HIFU device.

Ulthera is FDA-approved to lift the skin on the face and neck.

Common treatment areas include:

Brows and forehead
Chin
Neck (“turkey neck”)
Stomach
Stretch marks

Ulthera or Ultherapy is one of the most popular and highly developed systems available. Non-invasive ultrasound energy generates low levels of heat in the targeted skin. This stimulates the cells for collagen production and tissue rejuvenation. With just one treatment, HIFU pushes mature skin to start working hard again. Smoother, firmer, and brighter skin in the months after treatment.

Your eyes will look more open, brows more lifted, fine lines softened, and pore reduced. Because of the restored elasticity, your skin will feel softer and more supple, too. If you don’t think you need surgery yet or simply hate the thought of the knife, HIFU may be the natural facelift or neck lift alternative for you. Don’t let gravity get you down. (Sorry for the puns.)

Blurred jawline
Drooping, especially around the mouth
Sagging eyelids
Loose neck folds
Thin, creepy skin
Fine lines and wrinkles
Minor redness and dryness
Uneven skin tone or texture
Large pores

FAQ

What is High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound?

HIFU is a non-surgical face treatment that uses ultrasound to actually lift muscle and tone loose or sagging skin without any downtime.

What is unique about this procedure?

HIFU is the only non-invasive treatment that can specifically target the deep foundation below the skin that is addressed in cosmetic surgery without cutting or disrupting the surface of the skin. It is also the only procedure to use ultrasound imaging, which allows us to actually see the layers of tissue we target during treatment and ensure the energy is deposited precisely to where it will be most effective.

What kind of technology does HIFU use?

HIFU uses tried-and-true ultrasound technology, which has received FDA and Health Canada clearance for use in this new type of medical procedure.

What does the HIFU therapy do?

HIFU deposits focused ultrasound energy below the surface of the skin to contract the facial layer as well as stimulate the body’s creation of new collagen. As a result, skin will actually begin to lift and tone over time.

What does collagen do? How does HIFU stimulate the creation of collagen?

Collagen is a natural protein that gives skin its youthfulness by keeping it firmed, toned and elastic. As we age, collagen loses its elasticity and its ability to stand up to the effects of gravity that pull the skin downward. HIFU jump starts a repair process that produces fresh, new collagen.

Is HIFU surgery?

No. Unlike a face lift, HIFU is a non-invasive procedure that addresses the skin and support layers below it but doesn’t entail cutting or disrupting the surface of the skin.

Can HIFU replace a face-lift?

HIFU is an “uplift”, not a “face-lift.” While it is not a replacement for surgery, it is a viable option for those not ready for a face-lift or those looking to prolong the effects of cosmetic surgery.

How is HIFU different from lasers?

Lasers typically address issues in the superficial layers of the skin (e.g. fine lines, wrinkles, pigment changes). HIFU addresses the deep skin layer and the foundational layer addressed in cosmetic surgery that lifts and lends support to the skin. Therefore, the two technologies are quite complementary!

Is HIFU safe?

The procedure has been cleared after demonstrating safety in clinical studies, and tens of thousands of treatments have been performed safely worldwide. In addition, ultrasound energy has a proven track record, with use in the field of medicine for more than 50 years.

How long does the ultrasound treatment take?

A full face treatment takes 45-60 minutes, and a partial face or brow lift treatment can take around 30 minutes—neither with any downtime.

Is there any downtime?

HIFU is an entirely non-invasive procedure and as such, there is no downtime. You are able to return to your normal activities right away, and there are no special measures you need to take.

Who is a good candidate for HIFU?

A good candidate for HIFU is someone with skin that has “relaxed” to the point of looking and often feeling, less firm. A lowered eyebrow line or sagging skin on the eyelids, for instance, is often the first sign of “maturing” skin. Typically, those in their thirties and older who have mild to moderate skin laxity are candidates.

While HIFU is not a replacement for a surgical face lift, there are many people who want some lifting but are not ready for surgery, either mentally, financially or logistically. There are also younger people who want to “stay ahead of the game” as well as those looking to prolong the effects of cosmetic surgery.

What problem areas does HIFU target? What kind of results do you get?

HIFU addresses mild to moderate loose or sagging skin. Specifically, by reconditioning and renewing the skin from within, HIFU will lift the brow, which in turn reduces excess skin on the lids, opens up the eyes, and gives a more refreshed look overall. As well as full face, neck, chest, arms, elbows, tummy, inner thighs and knees.

How long until I see results?

Patients may enjoy some initial effect but the ultimate lifting and toning will take place over 2-3 months, as tired collagen is replaced with new, more elastic collagen. As this collagen-building process continues, further improvements can appear up to 6 months following a procedure.

How long do results last?

Patients treated with HIFU still have fresh young collagen after a year’s time following the procedure and can continue for up to another year depending on the condition of the skin. Future touch-up treatments can help keep pace with the aging process, which varies by individual.

Will I need more than one treatment?

The majority of patients only need one treatment; however, some may benefit from more than one treatment (depending on how much laxity they have and their body’s own biological response to the ultrasound and collagen- building process).

Will I feel the ultrasound during the treatment?

Yes. What you are feeling during the treatment is actually tiny amounts of focused ultrasound energy being deposited below the surface of the skin.

What does it feel like?

Patients have noted there can be some discomfort while the ultrasound energy is being delivered, but it is temporary and a positive signal that the collagen-building process has been initiated.

Is HIFU painful?

Comfort thresholds vary from patient to patient, but there can be some discomfort while the ultrasound energy is being delivered. This is temporary and a positive signal that the collagen-building process has been initiated.

Your practitioner will consult with you prior to your skin treatment to make your experience as pleasant as possible. Patients typically leave comfortable and excited about the benefits to come!

Are there any side effects?

There may be slight redness for up to an hour or so following the treatment, and a small percentage of clients may have slight swelling, tingling or tenderness to touch, but these are mild and temporary in nature. The feeling of a muscle workout soreness is common but relieves itself quickly.

HAIR LOSS TREATMENTS

HAIR LOSS:
Also called alopecia .

Everyone loses hair. It is normal to lose about 50-100 hairs every day. If you see bald patches or lots of thinning, you may be experiencing hair loss.

There are many causes of hair loss. Women may notice hair loss after giving birth. People under a lot of stress can see noticeable hair loss. Some diseases and medical treatments can cause hair loss.

The most common cause of hair loss is a medical condition called hereditary hair loss. Maximum number of men and women in india  have this type of hair loss. Other names for this type of hair loss are:

Male-pattern baldness.
Female-pattern baldness.
Androgenic alopecia.

Luckily, most causes of hair loss can be stopped or treated.

HAIR LOSS: WHO GETS AND CAUSES

What causes hair loss?
The reasons for hair loss are many. When hair loss begins suddenly, the cause may be due to illness, diet, medicine, or childbirth. If hair loss is gradual and becomes more noticeable with each passing year, a person may have hereditary hair loss. Certain hair care practices also can cause noticeable hair loss.

The following describes some of the many things that cause hair loss:

Hair disorders

Hereditary thinning or baldness (also called androgenetic alopecia): This is the Most common cause of hair loss. It affects men and women. most of the patients in india  have hereditary thinning or baldness.

When men have hereditary hair loss, they often get a receding hairline. Many men see bald patches, especially on the top of the head. Women, on the other hand, tend to keep their hairline. They see noticeably thinning hair. The first sign of hair loss for many women is a widening part. In rare cases, men see noticeably thinning hair. And in rare cases, women can see a receding hairline or bald patches. The reasons for this are unknown.

Alopecia areata: Researchers believe that this is an autoimmune disease. Autoimmune means the body attacks itself. In this case, the body attacks its own hair. This causes smooth, round patches of hair loss on the scalp and other areas of the body. People with alopecia areata are often in excellent health. Most people see their hair re-grow. we treat people with this disorder to help the hair re-grow more quickly.

Underlying medical condition: Hair loss can be the first sign of a disease. About 30 diseases, including thyroid disease and anemia, cause hair loss. By treating the disease, hair loss often can be stopped or reversed.

Illness: Significant hair loss can occur after an illness. A major surgery, high fever, severe infection, or even the flu can cause hair loss. Your  may call this type of hair loss telogen  effluvium.

Some cancer treatments: Radiation therapy and chemotherapy can cause hair loss. This hair loss is often temporary, but it can cause great distress.

Ringworm of the scalp: This disease is contagious and common in children. Without effective treatment, ringworm can cause balding.

Trichotillomania : This medical disorder causes people to repeatedly pull out their own hair. They often feel a constant urge to pull out the hair on the scalp. Some sufferers say they feel compelled to pull out their eyelashes, nose hairs, eyebrows, and other hairs on their bodies.

Hormones and stress

Giving birth: After giving birth, some women have noticeable hair loss. Falling estrogen levels cause this type of hair loss. The hair loss is temporary. In a few months, women see their hair re-grow.

Menopause: Hair loss is common during menopause. This loss is often temporary. Hair re-grows with time. If a woman is 40 years of age or older, she should not expect her hair to have the fullness that it did when she was younger.

Stress: Experiencing a traumatic event (e.g., death of a loved one or divorce) can cause hair loss.

Dieting and poor nutrition

Weight loss: Some people see hair loss after losing more than 15 pounds. The hair loss often appears 3 to 6 months after losing the weight. This hair loss is common. The hair re-grows without help.

Vitamin A: Too much vitamin A can cause hair loss. People can get too much of this vitamin through vitamin supplements or medicines. Once the body stops getting too much vitamin A, normal Hair growth resumes.

Protein: When the body does not get enough protein, it rations the protein it does get. One way the body can ration protein is to shut down hair growth. About 2 to 3 months after a person does not eat enough protein, you can see the hair loss. Eating more protein will stop the hair loss. Meats, eggs, and fish are good sources of protein. Vegetarians can get more protein by adding nuts, seeds, and beans to their diet.

Iron: Not getting enough iron can lead to hair loss. Good vegetarian sources of iron are iron-fortified cereals, soybeans, pumpkin seeds, white beans, lentils, and spinach. Clams, oysters, and organ meats top the list of good animal sources of iron.

Eating disorder: When a person has an eating disorder, hair loss is common. Anorexia (not eating enough) and bulimia (vomiting after eating) can cause hair loss.

Medicine
Some prescription medicines can cause hair loss. These include:

Blood thinners.
High-dose vitamin A.
Medicines that treat arthritis, depression, gout, heart problems, and high blood pressure.
Birth control pills: Some women who take the pill see hair loss. Sometimes, the hair loss begins when a women stops taking the pill. Women who get this hair loss often have hereditary hair loss.
Anabolic steroids (steroids taken to build muscle and improve athletic performance) may cause hair loss.

Hair care
Your hairstyle and even some of the products you use on your hair can cause hair loss.

Products: Frequent bleaching or permanents can cause the hair to break. Regular or improper use of dyes, gels, relaxers, and hair sprays also can cause hair breakage. We recommend limiting use of these hair products. Less use often means less hair breakage.

Blow dryers, flat irons, and other devices: Frequent use of a blow dryer tends to damage hair. The high heat from a blow dryer can boil the water in the hair shaft leaving the hair brittle and prone to breakage. Dermatologists recommend that you allow your hair to air dry. Then style your hair when it is dry. We also recommend limiting the use of flat irons (these straighten hair by using high heat) and curling irons.

Hairpins, clips, and rubber bands: When used to hold hair tightly, hairpins, clips, and rubber bands can break hair.

Hairstyles
Years of wearing hair in a style that pulls on the hair such as a ponytail, cornrows, or braids can cause a type of hair loss known as traction alopecia.

Improper washing, drying, and combing
The following practices often cause the hair to break:

Too much shampooing, combing, or brushing (100 strokes or more a day).
Rubbing wet hair dry with a towel.
Brushing or combing wet hair (especially people who are Asian or Caucasian).

HAIR LOSS: DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT

Diagnosis : at Expert Aesthetics ,we take a detailed medical history and get the required blood tests done to evaluate the exact etiology or cause of hair loss .

TREATMENTS :
Just as there are many causes, there are many treatments for hair loss.We recommend treating hair loss early. early, means before you lose a lot of hair. Hair loss is harder to treat when a person has a lot of hair loss. One or more of the following treatments may be part of your treatment plan.

HAIR LOSS TREATMENTS :

1) PRP (PLATELET RICH PLASMA ) TREATMENT FOR HAIR LOSS :

PRP or (IPlatelet Rich Plasma) is nothing but auto logous blood with concentrations of platelets above baseline levels and contain at least seven growth factors. Normal blood contain only 6% platelets. However, in PRP, there is a concentration of 94% platelets, which  translates to a powerful growth factor cocktail with a variety of growth factors and cytosines. This stimulates cellular proliferation and tissue regeneration to dramatically accelerate healing.

And since the platelets come from the patient’s own blood, there is absolutely no possibility of infection or other side effects. The only precaution you need to take is to stop any anti-inflammatory medications while administering PRP.

Why PRP?
Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP treatment) is fast becoming a favorite beauty procedure because of it’s simplicity and effectiveness. It’s easy because it involves blood being drawn from a patient’s body, similar to a regular blood test. The blood is then put into a centrifuge for a couple minutes to separate the platelets, serum and blood cells. And there you have everything you need to trigger your body is natural healing mechanism at will.

Let’s see how we can use PRP for enhancing your HAIR GROWTH .

Everyone experiences hair loss and most of it goes unnoticed. But fortunately, for most people (especially when they are young) their hair regeneration is faster than their hair loss. However, hormonal changes and certain medical conditions can reverse this and cause significant unwanted hair loss.

Research also suggests hair and self-image are closely intertwined. We all know how a bad-hair day can ruin the mood of women. Just imagine what it feels like to wake up to thinning hair or even baldness.

As I said a moment ago, hair loss happens when your hair regeneration falls below your hair loss rate. The reason for less hair regeneration? Not enough growth factors and nutrients. That ís why PRP has been proven to be a major procedure for hair loss treatment.

How Can PRP Treatments Help?

The growth factors and blood cells contained in the Plasma Rich Platelets can be powerful catalysts that accelerate your scalp capacity to regenerate hair cells. The growth factors can activate the hair follicles (only those that are dying, the long-dead hair follicles can not be revived) and make your scalp healthier and cleaner.

Depending on the severity of the hair loss, it can take about 6-8 sessions to get back your hair.

How long does the results last?

Hair growth in cycles. And the average follicle goes through 4 cycles (which can take up to 60 days to complete) in which only one of them is active growth phase. If most of your hair is in Active growth stage, yo wíll see results quickly. Otherwise you wíll just do treatments for about 2 months to catch the hairs in the Active growth phase.

When you undergo treatments for 6-8 weeks, itís hard to miss the active-growth phase of the hair and so you wíll see improved hair condition immediately after the 6th week.

2) MESOTHERAPY FOR HAIR LOSS : Mesotherapy

Most forms of hair loss are caused by

1 (Hormone imbalances in and around the hair follicle)
2 (A lack of the right nutrients)
3 (Reduced blood circulation)
Our mesotherapy treatment tackles exactly these 3 problems which results in a stimulation of natural hair growth and immediate stopping of hair loss.

What is Mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy is a non-invasive technique based on superficial micro-injections, just below the epidermis, into the target tissues. The term “mesoª is derived from the mesoderm or middle layer of the skin (approx. 1 mm deep). Mesotherapy is a treatment that stimulates the mesoderm, which relieves a wide variety of symptoms and ailments.

The solution injected can contain a wide range of minerals, vitamins, amino acids, nucleic acids and co-enzymes that can be tailored to each patients individual needs.
The treatment is virtually painless and safe .

Mesotherapy brings just the right materials to the exact place where it is needed (around the hair follicle) so that

the hair follicle can grow and survive,
the excess of DHT (dihydrotestosterone) is neutralised and
the blood circulation is stimulated.

Mechanism of action of Mesotherapy
Mesotherapy employs both the physical (mechanical) and the chemical stimulation. Small doses of different medications are administered in specific areas depending on the condition being treated. They act like a medicinal bullet that is delivered directly to a target in the body.

Mechanical: The needle is creating micro perforations that induce a healing process. The post traumatic response of the organism is to produce collagen and elastin ñ two of the key building blocks of skin. As there is no removal or ìrealî damage to existing collagen, the new formation of it simply adds to existing levels.

Chemical: The injected active ingredients will stimulate the organism. For instance, if the circulation is poor, a vaso-dilator is used ; if excessive inflammation is present, an anti-inflammatory medication is used . The quality of the product, its composition regarding the indication to treat is of first importance.

All this results in a stimulation of natural hair growth.

Most forms of hair loss are caused by hormone imbalances in and around the hair follicle, a lack of the right nutrients and reduced blood circulation.

The Treatment
The treatment itself takes between 10 and 30 minutes depending on the extension of the area being treated.

Usually a minimum of 10 sessions is required to stimulate hair growth. We recommend starting with an intensive course of treatments every 2 weeks for the first 2-3 months. The frequency then gradually decreases and the results of hair rejuvenation become evident already after 2-3 months. In order to keep the results maintenance treatments are needed generally once every 2 to 3 months.

STEM CELL THERAPY FOR HAIR LOSS :stem cells are differentiated biological cells that can differentiate into specialised cells and can divide to produce more stem cells ,they are found in multicellular organisms,in mammals there are two type of stem cells :embryonic stem cells which are isolated from the inner mass of blastocysts ,and adult stem cells ,which are found in various tissues ,in adult organisms, stem cells and progenitor cells act as a repair system for the body ,replenishing adult tissue.
ADIPOSE DERIVED STEM CELLS –These stem cells are derived by liposuction from adipose tissue .these cells possess extensive proliferative capacity and the ability to differentiate into multiple cell lineages .regenerative medicine ,using bodys own stem cells and chemical messengers of cytokines to repair tissue ,is an alternative therapeutic strategy for damaged tissue repair ,and is becoming a major candidate for cell therapy .adsc are pluripotent mesenchymal stem cells ,which have characteristics similar to bone marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells .8 to 10 sessions of stem cell therapy have shown excellent results .

LOW LEVEL LASER THERAPY FOR HAIR LOSS :Hair Beam uses Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT), which is proven to treat hair loss by Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in US, thus Hair Beam is safe to use as a home medical device. Hair Beams tightly embedded laser terminals contact the scalp directly and help lasers to be absorbed effectively. Terminal direct contact with the scalp minimizes the lasers scattering and reflection so that the laser can be penetrated deeply into the dermis to improve blood flow and lymphatic flow of capillary. Hair Beam is approved by KFDA as a medical laser device as well as get the CE and it is also registered with NET(New Excellent Technology) from Ministry of Health and Welfare of Korea in 2011. Hair Beam is a product after 3 years of research and development by WONTECH, a company specializes in medical laser devices. WONTECH has conducted clinical tests and experiments with 2 National University Hospitals for 24weeks, and the result of this procedure has confirmed that Hair Beam is a stable and superior laser device.

Cyclical therapy entails giving vitamins with calcium supplements on a single day, followed by iron and mineral combination product on one other day of the week and finally amino acid blend; the three regimens are so advocated that these are taken on alternate days as different nutrients such that daily dosing is avoided and so also possibility of nutrient-nutrient interaction.

SKIN WHITENING TRETAMENTS

Skin whitening and lightening treatment

melanin determines the color of the skin. Melanin is a type of skin pigment that is produced by the melanocytes. Individuals with the dark complexion have more melanin.

The melanin content in your skin is decided by your genetic makeup. Certain factors such as hormones, skin damage, exposure to sunlight, exposure to some chemicals may also affect the production of melanin.

The skin color can change. For example, when direct exposure to sunlight is reduced, sun tans fade. However, over a period of time, some discolorations such as “liver” spots or “age” spots become more or less permanent.

What does Skin Bleaching mean?

Skin bleaching is a type of cosmetic procedure for diminishing skin discolorations and to even out the skin color.

Some individuals apply skin lightener to their whole body in order to change their complexion, but this may be dangerous. Since some of the skin lighteners contain mercury, so skin bleaching may result in mercury poisoning.

Mercury produces toxic effects and may give rise to neurological, psychiatric, and kidney troubles. Pregnant women who make use of skin lighteners containing mercury can pass the mercury to their unborn child, causing birth defects.

What are the uses of Skin whitening?

Particular areas of abnormally high pigmentation like birthmarks and mole may be depigmented to match the skin around that area.

On the other hand, in a case of Vitiligo, unaffected skin may be whitened/lightened in order to give a more uniform look.

If used for a long time skin whiteners may result in pigmentation increasing to joints of toes, fingers, ears, and buttocks. The facial skin may get thinned and the region surrounding the eye may have more pigmentation resulting in a ‘bleach panda effect’.

Skin lightening treatments:

Combination Treatments:

Most of the skin-whitening treatments, which can diminish or block some amount of melanin production, target inhibition of tyrosinase. The majority of treatments make use of mixtures of gels or topical lotions comprising of melanin-inhibiting ingredients along with a sunscreen, and a prescription retinoid. Based on the skin’s response to these treatments, exfoliating agents – either in the form of chemical peels or topical cosmetic agents – and lasers may be used.

Hydroquinone treatment:

Hydroquinone is thought to be the main topical component for stoppage of melanin production. Its ingredients have strong antioxidant properties.

Hydroquinone is a strong inhibitor of melanin production, such that it arrests the process of making of substance responsible for skin color. Hydroquinone lightens the skin and can only disturb the synthesis & production of melanin hyperpigmentation .

Topical hydroquinone comes in 2% (available in cosmetics) to 4% (or more) concentrations (available by prescription or from a physician), alone or in combination with tretinoin 0.05% to 0.1%.

Arbutin:

Arbutin is obtained from the leaves of cranberry, bearberry, blueberry, or mulberry shrubs, and may also be present in a most type of pears. It may have melanin-inhibiting properties. Arbutin and other plant extracts are thought to be safer options to commonly used depigmenting agents in order to make the skin fairer. Arbutin exists in two isomers, alpha, and beta; out of the two, alpha provides higher stability over the beta. Hence, alpha is preferred to beta for skin lightening.

Glutathione:

Glutathione is a tripeptide molecule seen in mammals. It prevents oxidative damage to skin as it has strong antioxidant properties. Glutathione is also linked with skin lightening ability. Glutathione uses various mechanisms for exerting action as skin whitening agent at different levels of melanin production as follows:

o   It prevents the synthesis of melanin.

o   Its antioxidant property provides protection to the skin from UV radiation and other external as well as internal stressors generating free radicals responsible for causing skin damage and hyperpigmentation.

Glutathione can be used in combination with many other agents like vitamin C to increase its absorption, N-acetyl cysteine to boost its level, and other antioxidants like vitamin E. Some oral intake of glutathione could have harmful effect when used in combination with other skin whitening agents like hydroquinone which is cancer producing element and monobenzone which causes irreversible depigmentation.

Glutathione for skin whitening is available in soap, lotion, cream, injectable and in the form of nasal spray.

Topical application of Glutathione does not result in efficient absorption by skin cells.

The intravenous mode of administration provides direct absorption of glutathione in the systemic circulation and hence is the most preferred one.

Other components that can be used as Skin whitening agents include – kojic acid, vitamin C (ascorbic acid), azelaic acid, Alpha hydroxyl acids (AHAs), Niacinamide, licorice extract, etc.

Other treatment options:

A small amount of research has shown that oral supplements of ellagic acid, pomegranate extract, ferulic acid, vitamin E, can prevent the production of melanin.

Laser Treatment:

Ablative as well as non-ablative lasers can have an overpowering effect on melasma. However, outcomes are inconsistent. It may result in either increased or decreased pigmentation. Generally, individuals having dark complexion pose problems with Laser treatments.

The q-Switch Nd: YAG laser releases high energy light towards the affected region, thereby destroying unwanted skin cells which then permits the skin to generate new cells to replace old ones. In a q-Switch mode, the laser produces 2 wavelengths; which are useful to address skin lesions. The laser penetrates the skin deeply without harming the uppermost layer of skin and stimulates the production of collagen and vital proteins that are beneficial for a young and healthy skin.

Best Laser treatment for Age Spots

Laser Treatment for removing age spots

Apart from lightening your skin tone, this laser procedure also helps to improve complexion, resulting in smoother and fairer skin.

In summary, Skin lightening or skin whitening is a cosmetic dermatological procedure which uses chemical agents for lightening the skin tone. Skin conditions such as age spots, liver spots can benefit from Skin lightening. Skin whitening may prove to be a beneficial treatment for skin disorders such as vitiligo, melasma where the functioning of skin pigment melanin is either hyperactive or impaired. Treatment options for Skin whitening include hydroquinone, glutathione injections, usage of components such as kojic acid, azelaic acid, licorice extract and Laser treatment. Always remember, a beauty of skin is not only about the skin color, but even skin tone. Hence while going for any skin lightening and skin whitening treatment, the first and the foremost thing is to consult the best Cosmetic Dermatologist who can address all your queries and put all your concerns to rest. It is the matter of your skin after all.

Hyper-pigmentation is the production of excess melanin causing dark spots on the skin. Age spots, liver spots, freckles, sun spots, pregnancy mask are all types of hyper-pigmentation and there are several treatments available to reduce or remove the darker skin.

Hyper-pigmentation refers to areas of skin where an excess of melanin has been produced and formed deposits, causing skin patches that appear darker than the surrounding skin.

Common skin areas that experience hyper-pigmentation or dyschromia are the face, arms, and hands.  Age spots, liver spots, freckles, sun spots, melasma, and any typical dark or brown spots on the skin are examples of hyper-pigmentation.

Hyperpigmentation causes

Common causes of skin hyper-pigmentation include:

Sun exposure
Hormonal changes
Heredity
Acne
Botched skin treatments

In situations where hyper-pigmentation is caused by acne, botched skin treatment, or some other cause of skin inflammation, it is known as PIH or post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation.

Typically, hyper-pigmentation is a harmless skin condition, however, if moles or other possible signs of skin cancer appear, they should be checked by a dermatologist.

Hyper-pigmentation treatment

IPL (Photofacial) – Treatment with intense pulsed light, or a Photofacial, is frequently recommended by doctors to treat hyper-pigmentation. However, improperly administered IPL treatment can make hyper-pigmentation worse, so choose your doctor carefully.
Chemical peel – A TCA peel or deeper phenol peel are also used to treat hyper-pigmentation. Great care should be taken though as pigment irregularities and scarring can occur if not done by an experienced clinician with close follow-up.
Laser peel – A variety of laser resurfacing treatments may be performed to reduce hyper-pigmentation.
Topical skin lightening products – Products containing skin lightening ingredients, such as hydroxyzine, retinoids, kojic acid, and Vitamin C are often used to reduce hyper-pigmentation.

ACNE SCARS

ACNE SCARS: SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
Acne during adolescence and young adulthood is a source of embarrassment and self-consciousness. Sadly for some, acne leaves behind unsightly scars to serve as a painful reminder of this difficult time in your life.

Approximately 95% of acne patients develop some degree of scarring, and genetics has a significant impact on their severity. Asian and Hispanic acne sufferers tend to have more severe acne and more severe acne scarring.

Fortunately for most, acne scars are relatively mild and don’t necessitate treatment. But in situations where the scars are more pronounced on the face, medical treatment is required to help smooth the skin to a more normal level.

Acne scar treatment choices are based on many factors and not one treatment type is suitable for everyone.

Types of Acne Scars
Indented acne scarring is a direct result of tissue loss that occurs with infected acne or from repeated “picking” at these lesions. There are essentially three different types of acne scars:

Rolling acne scars These scars are shallow with smooth, rounded edges. They spread out over a large area of your face, such as the cheeks, and are the easiest to treat.

Boxcar acne scars These scars are deeper and have more defined borders. They typically reside in areas such as the temples.

Ice pick acne scars These scars are narrower and deeper, and they are typically scattered across your face. Although the most difficult to treat, combination treatment can reduce their appearance significantly.
Because acneic skin tends to be sensitive, it’s usually more prone to generalized redness. Dr. dipanjali can use intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy to seal up the tiny broken vessels which create this redness.

Acne Scar Treatment Options
The only way to change the appearance of indented acne scars on a permanent basis is to promote collagen growth and/or by “planing” the skin surface.
Depending on your unique individual needs, we may recommend one or more of the following acne scar treatments:

PRP WITH SUBCISION  .

The platelets in the PRP injections contains growth factors, which are known to stimulate the skin cells and trigger the production of new skin tissue. Production of new skin also means production of new collagen which greatly improves the skin appearance in that and surrounding areas making it appear more vibrant and soft.

With PRP being a fast-action procedure, you’ll see results with just 4-6 treatments — in a month’s INTERVAL
During a subcision procedure, the scar is loosened from the underlying tissue. This allows the scar floor to rise closer to the level of surrounding normal skin.WHEN SUBCISION IS COMBINED WITH PRP ,THE RESULTS ARE FASTER AND BETTER .

PRP WITH MICRONEEDLING : The platelets in the PRP injections contains growth factors, which are known to stimulate the skin cells and trigger the production of new skin tissue. Production of new skin also means production of new collagen which greatly improves the skin appearance in that and surrounding areas making it appear more vibrant and soft.

With PRP being a fast-action procedure, you’ll see results with just 4-6 treatments — in a month’s INTERVAL Micro needling is based on the use of tiny needles to create micro channels (tiny holes) in the skin.  The process stimulates your skin’s natural ability to heal itself and in the process produces collagen and elastin.

This repair process begins almost immediately and results in a thicker dermis and softened wrinkles or scars. We use the automated  MicroPen for its predictable performance and safety profile. PRP IS DONE ALONGWITH MICRONEEDLING PRODUCES EXCELLENT RESULTS

MICRONEEDLING    Micro needling is based on the use of tiny needles to create micro channels (tiny holes) in the skin.  The process stimulates your skin’s natural ability to heal itself and in the process produces collagen and elastin.

This repair process begins almost immediately and results in a thicker dermis and softened wrinkles or scars. We use the automated  MicroPen for its predictable performance and safety profile.

There is no tissue destruction with micro needling. The small channels in the epidermis close very quickly and the skin begins a healing response right away. Depending on the depth of the skin defect, you may see only redness or you may experience some pinpoint bleeding which stops almost immediately.

CHEMICAL PEELS  Chemical peels remove damaged outer layers of skin to smooth texture, reduce scarring, and remove blemishes. Different peel formulas achieve different results and are chosen by need and skin type.

LASER TREATMENT : Provide cumulative improvements in collagen production beneath and surrounding the scars. The collagen “remodeling” will help smooth the skin surface and “lift” the scar.

MICRODERMABRASION /DERMABRASION : Diamond tipped microdermabrasion system that exfoliates the skin while simultaneously delivering a topical dermaceutical.

YOUR SOLUTION FOR CLEAR, BEAUTIFUL SKIN

Acne can occur due to various reasons and at various stages in a person’s life. Medically known as Acne Vulgaris, this skin condition involves the oil glands at the base of hair follicles. Medically speaking, acne is not dangerous. However, it can leave undesirable marks and scars on your face. There are often psychological side effects associated with acne, such as poor self-image, Depression and Anxiety.

Overactive Sebaceous Glands produce too much oil that leads to blocked pores. This in turn promotes bacterial growth which ultimately causes inflammation which shows up in the form in Bumps on the skin. The primary trigger of most cases of Acne is a Hormonal Imbalance. Hormones Stimulate the Oil Glands to produce more Sebum, which can Block Pores. Additionally, a Enetic Predisposition, Stress and Environmental Factors can also trigger Acne.   Acne can present itself as common hiteheads, blackheads and papules all the way up to more serious pustules, nodules and cysts.

It is essential to seek professional help at the earliest to avoid and minimize unwanted scarring. Our Doctors will first investigate the cause of your Acne. After understanding the cause, the severity of your condition will be evaluated following which we will create a Tailor-made Treatment plan for you. Treatment usually involves a combination of oral medication, clean-ups, professional peels and Sublative Laser for Scarring.

What are some of the treatment options for acne?

Topical Creams and Antibiotics usually work for mild cases. For more severe acne in females, we investigate hormone levels first and treat the cause  i.e. the Hormonal Imbalance. Professional Peels also help. Severe cases of acne may be treated with Isotretinoin. Blood counts, all other parameters, and contraindications are monitored before any giving any medicine.

How can I choose the treatment that’s best for me?

The treatment you choose depends on factors such as age, gender, the severity of the Acne, and how long you’ve had it. At Expert Aesthetics, We Customise your acne treatment based on your history, skin analysis and a complete investigation of Blood Reports.

How can a Peel help?

During a Peel procedure, the peeling agent when applied on the skin Exfoliates the top layers. This signals the cells inside the skin to produce more rapidly, which can help hasten skin turnover and prevent pores from clogging up. Moreover there are certain Peels which even help to control the Sebum production thereby aiding in healing and drying the existing Acne.

Is there a treatment for back ance?

Acne is not limited to the Face, it can appear anywhere on the body that has hair follicles including your back, chest, and shoulders. 60% of acne sufferers are inflicted with back acne and it is usually a sign that their acne is severe. Medication will heal the acne and the advanced skin brightening Peel at Expert Aesthetics helps to reduce the Acne Scars Effectively.

Can I get a clean-up?

If you are Prone to Acne, we strongly recommend you avoid traditional Facials. But Expert Aesthetic’s special range of Dermal Therapies for Acne are customized to Soothe, Pamper and Heal Skin without causing any aggravation. The newly introduced clean Pore Treatments aim at reducing the skin’s oil content, preventing dead cells from clogging pores and finally killing bacteria to prevent further acne outbreaks.

What about the scars?

Collagen Induction is the best way to Treat Scars. Treatment options can range from Microdermabrasion, Peels, Micro Needling ,  PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma )  and even resurfacing Lasers, Depending upon the Extent and Severity of the scars. Our doctors will examine your skin and based on the extent of damage caused by the Acne, Suggest the perfect regime for you.

What can I do in case of a sudden break out?
